As our seamstress steadily works through the alterations requested by our 2010 brides, we thought we’d post a little FAQ to help those not already booked get things started, and to remind September brides that now is the time to book your fittings.

ALTERATION FAQ 

Where do I do my alterations?

Call or email us to book your appointment. We have a wonderful seamstress who works full time at Blush Studios (located in the same building), making sure your dress is perfect in time for the big day!

How long does it take?

A lot depends on the time of year, but bridal alterations generally take at least two fittings spread out over a one-month period. While we can do a faster turnaround on alterations if needed, we always encourage Blush brides to leave enough time to make sure the fit is perfect. You should book your appointment well in advance; however, if you’ve left it a little late, we'll always do everything we can to accommodate your schedule!

Bridesmaid alterations take three weeks and they usually only need one fitting.

How much will it cost?

At Blush, we’ve made it a goal to provide the highest quality alterations at the most affordable rates. After your first fitting, you will be provided with a breakdown of what will need to be done to your dress along with an estimate on the associated costs. While those costs vary from dress to dress, the average alteration at Blush is between $100 and $250. Most bridesmaid dresses are around $40-$75. For both bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses, the cost will depend on the complexity of the gown, but we've found that so many of our dresses have such terrific fits, it's common to need only a simple bustle and hem!

Do I need a bra? 

Most of our gowns will only need cups sewn into the dress. This means you don't need to purchase any special undergarments (except the ones for your wedding night!).

Will my dress be steamed?

Yes! At your final fitting, you can book a steaming appointment so your dress will be completely steamed and perfect for your wedding day. If you'd like to take your dress with you after your final fitting, just let us know when you are booking your fitting appointment and we will book your steam for the same day.

Do you take dresses that aren't from Blush?

Please call or email to inquire. While we do prioritize our customers, we often accept dresses from other shops provided they are the work of reputable designers.

Currently, we are unable to accept dresses purchased online as they are often poorly constructed out of low-quality or unknown fabrics. This makes them risky to alter and often results in an unacceptable fit.
